The Lerian Club of Melbourne is a not for profit organisation.
The Lerian Brotherhood of Melbourne (now Lerian Club of Melbourne) was founded in 1966 by immigrants to Australia from the Aegean island of Leros, Greece. The primary aim of the brotherhood was to generate a sense of belonging and forge a unity between Lerian immigrants in their new homeland. Moreover, the brotherhood provided an avenue by which Lerians could ease into their new lives in Melbourne whilst maintaining their cultural ties to Leros.
Over the subsequent years many Lerians have worked extremely hard to maintain the existence of the club in order to continue serving both the Lerian and wider Greek communities in Melbourne.
A significant milestone was achieved in 1996 with the establishment of the Lerian House in Yarraville.
Since the formation in 1966, the Lerian community has grown widely through the subsequent new generations of children and grandchildren born of those first Australian Lerian families. Lerian traditions are still proudly maintained by Lerian households all over suburban Melbourne and through the continual use of the Lerian House and LCoM events held throughout the year.
We strongly encourage all Lerians and friends of Leros to register as members of the Lerian Club of Melbourne and actively attend and participate in our future events and functions.
Through the revitalised Lerian Club of Melbourne it is our desire to once more bring together and form a common bond with all Lerians and friends of Leros for many generations to come and continue the legacy of our founding members.
