About the club
We are a not-for-profit multicultural community club run entirely by volunteers. Membership fees and all revenue are used for the benefit of our members and the broader community in Melbourne.
Our aim is simple: enable people to connect through our Lerian culture and community spirit.
Our history
The Lerian Club of Melbourne (representing people from the Greek island of Leros) was established in 1966, making it six decades old in 2026.
Key Milestones & History
- Foundation (1966): Formed in Melbourne to unite migrants and descendants from Leros, Dodecanese, fostering a hub for Greek culture, community, and heritage.
- Footscray & Yarraville Roots: Early members settled heavily in Melbourne’s inner-west (such as Footscray and Yarraville), where community gatherings, social events, and family celebrations took place.
- Long-Term Lease (2023): Members voted unanimously to secure a long-term lease agreement for the club premises to guarantee its financial stability and future community programs.
- 60th Anniversary (2027): The club continues to host social gatherings, annual picnics, and milestone anniversary events, including a planned 60th Anniversary Dinner Dance.
